Mission and Ministry

St. Augustine’s Mothers’ Union Branch was formed in 2005 by then Branch Leader and now current MU-USA Provincial President, Ms. Evelyn Alleyne. The ladies originally met as a group called the “Mothers Club”.   On November 6, 2005, the group was officially commissioned into the Province of the USA Mothers’ Union as its 12th branch.   Since then, the branch was led by two other branch leaders: (1) Ms. Rosanna Brathwaite, current Diocesan President of Long Island (overseeing the NY/NJ chapters); and (2) Mrs. Joan C. Lawson.    The branch has an average of 35-40 active members

In keeping with the mission of our branch: “to strengthen, preserve and promote the wellbeing of Christian Family life in our parish, community and worldwide”, the branch provides assistance in our parish supporting the newly baptized, confirmation candidates, high school graduates, community shelters and organizations, and where relevant, our sisters nationwide.

Projects / What we Do

International Women’s Day:  Each year, in March, our Mothers’ Union branch collaborates with the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) ministry to celebrate International Women’s Day; hosting and leading worship services for one Sunday to bring insight and enlightenment to the worldwide fight for women’s rights.

Baptism:  The branch also prepares and provides welcome packages monthly for the parents of the newly baptized in our parish with the goal of being a source of communication and support to young mothers.

Adopt-A-Family:  Each year our branch reaches out on Mother’s Day and during the holidays in support of a mother and family the branch has adopted over the years. The branch gives personal care packages for the mom on Mother’s Day and for the entire family during the holidays.

Confirmation:  In addition, we support the confirmation candidates by providing sponsorship and assistance where needed.

High School Graduates/College Freshmen: Our ladies enthusiastically support our youths with gift certificates/and book stipends for high school graduates going off to college.  Our back-to-school supplies drive is also a great source of outreach.

Holiday Toy and Care Packages Drive:  We are happy to assist with providing meals, when possible, preparing care packages, pampers, and toys for women and children in shelters with which we are affiliated.
